James 1:17-18 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning. Of His own will He brought us forth by the word of truth, that we might be a kind of firstfruits of His creatures.

One of the advantages of attending Goodwill's Weds evening prayer services is I often get a foretaste of the sermon to come. The Weds evening service before Christmas 2004 was no exception. That is when I first heard my pastor, John Torres, say that "the manger is just one side of the cross". That statement was the start of this song. I began meditating on it and seeing similarities between the manger and cross. They were both made of wood and both bore the Lord's body. During Christmas Eve sevices on Fri I heard the statement again and by Sunday morning this song was complete enough to perform as an offeratory at Goodwill. A small Christnmas gift from the Lord to me. While listening to it keep that fact in mind. The manger indeed is one side of the cross.
